If you’ve recently got engaged, there are likely a few things racing around your mind.

Number one: when the heck did you become such a grown-up?

You were playing on the swings not five minutes ago!

Number two: how on earth are you going to organise a whole wedding, complete with a cake, seating arrangements, and the constant bickering between your aunt and uncle?!

Number three: where exactly should you go on your honeymoon?

As time moves on and the stresses of the wedding move closer, that third point is going to start making its way up the ranks, to the point where it’s all you want to think about!

Well, we’re here to provide guidance when you do.

We think we’ve got the perfect honeymoon spot in Costa Rica. Not only is this country beautiful, but it’s also one of the most exciting places to experience a whole new way of life.

With luxurious jungle lodges, romantic boat rentals, and countless activities to sink your teeth into, this is a honeymoon so good that you’ll never want the sun to rise.

But enough chatter, let’s get down to brass tacks. Let’s say you’ve made the incredibly wise decision of choosing Costa Rica for your honeymoon – what exactly are the most romantic spots to visit and why? To help you out, we’ve compiled seven of our favourite romantic spots and why they’re so perfect for you as a brand new happy couple!

Lake Arenal and Arenal National Park

In terms of sheer majesty, it doesn’t get any better than Arenal National Park and the surrounding area. This is a gorgeous location in Costa Rica that is known for its stunning views, incredible wildlife, and some of the friendliest locals you will ever find.

We’ve been putting down roots at the shore of Lake Arenal, just outside of the national park, for a few years now, and it’s still hard to get over the place during the morning walk into work. For honeymooners, it’s best described as a romantic paradise.

When the sun is sparkling on the still waters of Lake Arenal, the clouds are parting at the peak of Volcano Arenal, and the birds are beginning to chirp their morning song, it’s hard to imagine any place better to start the next chapter with your special someone.

Not to mention, there’s loads to explore and even more to experience. Our boat rentals are one of them. Whether you’re a passionate watersport enthusiast or a complete first-timer, here at Volcano Watersports, you can test out your skills and experience the thrill of gliding on water in one of the most special destinations in the world.

As well as this, you can delve deep into the rainforest and try out the Mistico Hanging Bridges. If you want a new way to sightsee, it doesn't get any better than exploring the rainforests up with the birds, 148 feet in the air, looking down upon the gorgeous scenery that Costa Rica has to offer... Just make sure that neither of you is scared of heights before you book a ticket!

Nearby is the gorgeous, historic town of La Fortuna – one of the most spell-binding locations in the whole of Costa Rica.

Manuel Antonio

Manuel Antonio is a favourite spot for honeymooners, mostly because it offers the best of both worlds. On the one hand, there’s a stretch of dense rainforest, complete with mischievous howler monkeys, singing toucans, and even prowling jaguars – although we’d recommend steering clear of those!

On the other hand, there’s the most beautiful coastline you’ve ever seen in your life. With clear-blue water, vast sandy beaches and plenty of palm trees to keep out of the sun, it’s the perfect destination for honeymooners looking for variety.

If simply exploring and relaxing isn’t all you want to do, there are also a number of activities to have fun with. You can go snorkelling, go on a sunset cruise, go horseback riding, or try out a spot of sunset surfing.

Scuba diving is also very popular here. In just half a day, you can learn how to scuba dive and go on a unique scuba diving trip to explore the nearby coral reefs up close. For water lovers who want to get up close and personal with nature, it’s simply unbeatable!

Tamarindo

Another gorgeous coastline is available in Tamarindo. This is the destination for honeymooners who want to let their hair down and have a bit of a party! Known as Costa Rica’s party town, Tamarindo has a wealth of quirky bars, VIP experiences, and plenty of dance clubs and discos too.

While you might be a little worn out after all that wedding planning – not to mention the actual wedding itself – partying in Tamarindo is unlike partying anywhere else in the world.

The drinks are eclectic, the venues expansive, and there’s a certain unrivalled happiness amongst locals and staff that's impossible not to get inspired by -- Costa Rica has been deemed the happiest country in the world, and a quick boogie in a Tamarindo nightclub is enough to show you how justified that label really is.

Of course, it’s not only about partying. For those who want to keep their honeymoon low-key, there’s the gorgeous Tamarindo Beach, Playa Avellana, and a whole lot else to experience. You can explore lakes in a kayak, oh, and there’s even a monkey park to explore. So long as you keep your purse safe from a bunch of mischievous monkeys, we’d definitely recommend trying that one out!

Papagayo Peninsula

It’s hard to describe Papagayo Peninsula as anything other than a gateway to luxury. Situated on the North Pacific coast, this is another natural paradise that is a favourite amongst honeymooners looking to forget about the real world for a bit.

With a Four Seasons Resort right on the beach and a number of nearby locations to visit – including Playa Nacascolo and the incredible Witch’s Rock Canopy – this would be a honeymoon to rival all honeymoons. One of the best activities to try out here is the zip-lining experience.

While you need to take a little trip to Diamante Eco Adventure Park to do it, this is a great opportunity to experience the rainforests of Costa Rica in a completely different way.

Obviously, walking hand-in-hand with your significant other is great, but whooshing above the treeline has to come a close second! Oh, and there’s also a 30-foot free fall Quick Jump to contend with, for those who want to add even more spice to their honeymoon!

San Jose

But Costa Rica isn’t all rainforests and beaches. While we’re incredibly proud of our natural beauty and wildlife conservation efforts, we’re also proud of our eccentric and thriving cities. Take San Jose, for instance. For honeymooners, this is a city of love that can rival even the likes of Paris.

Whether you want to take a food walking tour, have a candlelit dinner in a hidden restaurant, or sip on a cocktail in the famous Municipal Rose Garden, there are so many ways to wile away the days and spend quality time with your partner.

Also, if you get a little tired of the busy city streets, you can always take a quick trip to any one of the nearby beaches, including the main beach of Santa Cruz, Gray Whale Cove or the Ano Nuevo State Park. Beat that, Paris!

Tortuguero

Famous for the nesting leatherback sea turtles, Tortuguero is a popular spot for thousands of tourists in Costa Rica. For people who aren’t aware, a lot of tourists time their visit to fall between September and October.

This is because, three months before, hundreds of turtles had made their way onto the beaches, dug holes in the sand, and laid their eggs. The babies are then born around three months later, which means you can witness hundreds of newborn turtles experience the world for the first time, take their first steps, and follow the path into the sea.

It’s a spectacle unlike any other, and it’s certainly a great opportunity for any nature lover. Just nearby, there’s also the Sea Turtle Conservancy Museum, which gives you all sorts of information about the turtles, and even offers you the opportunity to volunteer with the Turtle Conservancy for a week! You might just want to discuss that with your SO first!

Playa Flamingo

Any location with the word “flamingo” in it is bound to be good, isn’t it? Playa Flamingo certainly lives up to its flamboyant name, not least because of the stunning natural beauty, fluffy white beaches and proximity to the Catalinas Islands, for those who want to go on an island-hopping day trip!

For honeymooners, there are plenty of things to get excited about here. There’s the Monday Moonlight Market – where you can pick up a range of things, from food to art to jewellery – and there’s even the Flamingo Casino, which is the only luxurious casino in Guanacaste.

Really, though, this place is just an example of Costa Rica’s beauty and elegance. One of the best things you can do here as a couple is simply lie on the beach, with the sand in your hair, and the waves tickling against your feet, and feel one with the world and your partner. It’s those sorts of moments that make a honeymoon in Costa Rica so worth it.
